Camera considered at Stryt Las Park after reports of harm to birds

Wrexham Council is considering a camera overlooking Stryt Las Park after receiving reports of antisocial behaviour towards birds. Officers visited following concerns about an injured swan, but did not find an injured bird on their most recent visit. The council says it is aware of wider reports and is considering what further action to take. Those reports have not been presented as a confirmed finding against any individual.

What is being considered

The council’s update, published on 29 September, says posters are being prepared to encourage visitors to report incidents and explain where to seek help for injured birds. A camera is being explored, rather than announced as approved or installed. Environment lead David A Bithell said officers were examining practical measures, including signs and possible camera coverage. Work with partners and the local community is continuing.

How visitors can report concerns

The council asks people who witness antisocial behaviour or deliberate harm to wildlife to report non-emergency incidents to North Wales Police on 101 or through the force’s website. If a bird appears injured or distressed, it advises seeking help from an animal welfare organisation rather than trying to catch or handle it. The announcement does not give a date for a decision on camera installation.
