Yori Griffith marked his return from a month out injured by captaining Swansea City’s under-21s and scoring twice in their 4-2 win over Queens Park Rangers. The midfielder, who had suffered a slight hamstring injury against Hull City in August, said the side’s pressing helped them recover from their previous defeat at Fleetwood.

Winning the ball back high up the pitch

Griffith scored on either side of half-time in Monday’s game. His first helped Swansea take a 3-0 lead into the interval; his second followed a turnover high up the pitch and restored a three-goal cushion after QPR had pulled one back.

“Our counter press was something they couldn’t deal with,” Griffith told the club. He described aggressive pressing as part of the team’s playing identity, while acknowledging their disappointment at conceding twice after the break.

Two goals on his return

Kai Rhodes and Joe Davies also scored for Swansea. Griffith supplied two of the hosts’ four goals, giving his return an immediate impact after he had missed the trip to Fleetwood.

Swansea’s update on 30 September places the side fourth in the Professional Development League with three wins. Griffith said the players were pleased with the result and their performance, but stressed that the season was still at an early stage.
