Conor Coady leaves Wrexham having played six times in a year

Wrexham AFC published three sentences on Monday afternoon, and the first one ended a signing. Conor Coady has left the football club following the mutual termination of his contract, the statement says. The defender joined from Leicester City in August 2025, made six appearances in all competitions, and went to Charlton Athletic on loan in January 2026. Wrexham thanked Coady for his efforts and wished him well for the future. No destination club is named in the notice, and no manager comment is attached to it.

Six appearances across a year is the whole of the record, and the exit lands at an awkward hour. Wrexham sit 20th in the Championship on two points from three matches, none won and four conceded, with a first defeat of the season three days old: 1-2 at home to Birmingham City on Friday night, 10,536 through the turnstiles at the Racecourse Ground, Robert Jones refereeing. What the captain said

In a club interview published on Monday morning, the captain Dom Hyam went at the same subject. "We spoke amongst ourselves, and said that the goals we conceded were very poor," Hyam said. "We pride ourselves on being hard to beat and hard to score against. It was unlike us, and that's what really hurts." On where the repair comes from, Hyam pointed at the dressing room rather than the coaching staff: "Sorting it is within ourselves. I personally don't think it's a coaching thing. It's the players on the pitch that need to put it right." And on the season ahead: "It's about sticking together now. It's a long season, so we need to look at what we didn't do and address it immediately."

The next examination comes quickly. Millwall host Wrexham at The Den on Wednesday night, kick-off 19:45, and a Welsh derby follows at the Swansea.com Stadium on Saturday at 20:00, where Swansea City sit third on seven points with one goal conceded all season. Hyam's closing words were about the department that is now a body lighter: "It's a talented group in there, but we need to give ourselves a solid base to work off, and that starts at the back. That of course includes everyone, but us as defenders need to pride ourselves on being more solid."
