Between Monday 31 August and deadline day Wrexham parted with five players: Conor Coady and Elliot Lee by mutual consent, Dan Scarr sold to Salford City, Harry Ashfield sold to Peterborough United, Alex Moore loaned to Colwyn Bay. Not one of the five had played a Championship minute for Wrexham this season. That is the number that explains the week, and it is a recent one. The career totals the club's notices carry, Lee's 152 appearances and 41 goals, Scarr's 44 appearances, were built in the National League, League Two and League One. The season just gone, in the Championship, is the one that decided who stayed.
What each of the five played last season
Scarr was the only one of the five who was a regular: 20 Championship appearances, 15 starts and 1,360 minutes for Wrexham in 2025-26, a third of the available minutes, derived from the API-Football totals. Coady, signed from Leicester City in August 2025, started five league games, 442 minutes, then spent January on loan at Charlton, where he played 852 minutes and scored once. Ashfield's Championship contribution was one substitute appearance of eight minutes before a loan to Cheltenham in League Two. Lee played no league football for Wrexham last season at all, three League Cup games and a goal, and spent the second half of the season on loan at Doncaster in League One, 1,085 minutes and three goals. Moore has no senior record on the feed. The other four played 450 Championship minutes for Wrexham in total; the club shed players it was not using.
What came in
Joe Worrall arrived from Burnley on a two-year deal with an option, 517 Premier League minutes last season and no top-five rank on anything Cover's scanner measures. Callum O'Hare arrived from Sheffield United on three years with an option, and his last season is a different order of number: 3,468 Championship minutes, eight goals, eight assists, the third-most assists and fifth-most key passes of 584 players in the division. Both were registered and on the bench at Millwall on Wednesday, unused, as Wrexham won 3-0 with Cleworth, Hyam and Doyle across the back and kept a first clean sheet. The two arrivals bring 3,985 minutes of last-season football at the two highest levels; the five departures left 1,810 Championship minutes behind. No fee is stated for Scarr or Ashfield, and the wage bill those minutes sat on, £17.6m in wages and salaries in the accounts to June 2025, predates every one of these moves by a year.
Two limits. Alex Moore's loan is the club's notice only, with no senior row on the feed, so his line is a name. And the count of centre-backs lost this summer is two on the club's own posts, Coady and Scarr; a third has been reported elsewhere and is not printed here. Swansea City away on Saturday night is the next test of the squad that stayed.
