Between Monday 31 August and deadline day on 1 September Wrexham parted with five players: Conor Coady and Elliot Lee by mutual consent, Dan Scarr to Salford City and Harry Ashfield to Peterborough United, both on permanent deals with no fee disclosed, Alex Moore on loan to Colwyn Bay until January. Not one of the five had played a Championship minute for Wrexham this season. That is the number that explains the week, and it is a recent one. Lee's 152 appearances and 41 goals, the career total the club's notice carries, were built almost entirely in the National League, League Two and League One; 20 of Scarr's 44 were in the Championship. The season just gone, in the Championship, is the one that decided who stayed.

What each of the five played last season

Scarr was the only one of the five who was a regular: 20 Championship appearances, 15 starts and 1,360 minutes for Wrexham in 2025-26, a third of the 4,140 available in a 46-game season, Cover's calculation on the licensed data provider's totals. Coady, signed from Leicester City in August 2025, made six appearances in all competitions, five of them league, for 442 league minutes, then joined Charlton on loan at the end of January for the rest of the season, where he played 852 minutes. Ashfield's Championship contribution was one substitute appearance of eight minutes before a loan to Cheltenham in League Two. Lee played no league football for Wrexham last season at all, three League Cup games and a goal, and spent the second half of the season on loan at Doncaster in League One, 1,085 minutes and three goals. Moore played 12 games on loan at Colwyn Bay in the second half of last season, Wrexham's notice says, and has no senior row on the feed. The other four played 450 Championship minutes for Wrexham in total; the club shed players it was not using.

What came in

Joe Worrall arrived from Burnley on a two-year deal with an option, 517 Premier League minutes last season, and he did not finish in the top five of the division on any measure Cover checked. Callum O'Hare arrived from Sheffield United on three years with an option, and his last season is a different order of number: 3,468 Championship minutes, eight goals, eight assists, the third-most assists and fifth-most key passes of 584 players in the division. Both were registered and on the bench at Millwall on Wednesday, unused, as Wrexham won 3-0 with Cleworth, Hyam and Doyle across the back and kept a first clean sheet. The comparison that decided the week is about level, not volume. Counted the same way, every league minute the feed records for each man anywhere last season, the five who left played at least 4,498 and the two who arrived 3,985: the departures played at least 513 minutes more, and Alex Moore's Colwyn Bay season is not on the feed at all. What separates them is where. O'Hare's 3,468 and Worrall's 517 were played in the Championship and the Premier League; of the five who left, only Scarr's 1,360 and Coady's 442 were Championship minutes for Wrexham, and the rest came in League One, League Two and the Welsh leagues. Wrexham has swapped volume lower down for minutes at the level it is now playing.

Two limits on this ledger. Alex Moore's 12 Colwyn Bay games are Wrexham's notice only, with no senior row on the feed. And the count of centre-backs lost this summer is two on the club's own posts, Coady and Scarr; a third has been reported elsewhere and is not printed here. Swansea City away on Saturday night is the next test of the squad that stayed.

Update, 00:23 on Sunday 6 September. A sixth player left after this ledger's window closed: Wrexham confirmed on 3 September that the forward Davis Keillor-Dunn had joined Sheffield Wednesday on loan, until 2 January 2027 on Sheffield Wednesday's own notice. He is outside the 31 August to 1 September count above. Two corrections. Keillor-Dunn is 28, not 29: Wrexham's notice calls him 29, Sheffield Wednesday's calls him 28, and Soccerbase gives his date of birth as 2 November 1997, so he turns 29 in November. And an earlier correction on this piece was itself wrong. It said Scarr and Ashfield could not be described as sold because neither club notice stated a fee. Both receiving clubs do state one: Salford City call Scarr's a multi-year deal for an undisclosed fee, and Peterborough United say they signed Ashfield for an undisclosed fee on a three-year deal with a year's option. Both were permanent transfers for undisclosed fees.
