Residents will be able to hear how the A4061 bridge at Blackmill is to be replaced at a public meeting on Wednesday 28 October. The meeting starts at 5.30pm at Blackmill Youth and Community Centre. Bridgend council says it will explain the work’s phasing, schedule, traffic-management plans and arrangements agreed with public transport providers.

Why the bridge deck needs replacing
Contractor Centregreat Limited has been appointed to replace the entire main deck after checks found structural problems, including significant cracks. The council describes the A4061 as the main route into and out of the Ogmore Valley. Welsh Government is contributing up to £3.5 million towards the work. Gas, water and telecommunications services beneath the bridge need to be rerouted while it is carried out.
A start date is still being confirmed
The council’s current project FAQ says a full timetable and the start date for physical works are still being confirmed. Traffic orders have been implemented, while the contractor and utility companies are agreeing when services can be transferred so the bridge deck can be removed. The meeting announcement does not set out a new closure start date or a diversion timetable.

Where this sits
The contractor has been appointed, but the current project FAQ still leaves the physical works start date unconfirmed.
The work replaces the entire main bridge deck rather than patching the significant structural cracks found by engineers.
