Cyfarthfa sequoia lights up on 21 November, but no light show this Christmas

Cyfarthfa will mark the start of Christmas by illuminating its giant sequoia tree on Saturday 21 November, Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council has said. A Christmas Fayre at Cyfarthfa Castle Museum and Art Gallery runs across the weekend.
No light show this year
A show like last year's bicentenary event will not take place. The council cites the significant restoration works under way at Cyfarthfa Castle, the financial and logistical challenges of a large public event, and the end of funding previously available through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. It says planning is under way for events and exhibitions in 2027, with hopes a festive event can return in future.
What is on
Festive activities include wreath making and the return of Santa's letterbox, with cake and seasonal coffee at Julie's Tea Room and gifts at the Museum Gift Shop. Cyfarthfa Park will be open until 6pm from Saturday 21 November to Monday 4 January 2027 so visitors can see the lit tree.
