A new memorial garden for babies lost too soon has opened at Glyntaff Crematorium in Pontypridd. Seren Fach offers a place to sit, reflect and remember, including for families who do not have a grave to visit. Rhondda Cynon Taf Council says all visitors are welcome to spend time there.

A place to remember

The garden has benches, planting, landscaped areas and metal memorial friezes. Families can purchase a metal leaf carrying an inscribed message to be attached to a memorial. Council deputy leader Maureen Webber unveiled a dedication plaque at the opening ceremony. In its announcement on Friday 16 October, the council said the space had been created by its Bereavement Services team with contractor P Morgan Services. The council also points visitors to remembrance areas at Trealaw, Maes-yr-Arian and Treorchy cemeteries. Those areas have Letters to Heaven postboxes for messages to loved ones.

Visiting and memorial enquiries

Glyntaff Crematorium is on Cemetery Road, Glyntaff, Pontypridd, CF37 4BE. The council’s published weekday visiting hours are 9am to 4.30pm, with no vehicle access after 4pm. It lists pedestrian access through the main gates from 4pm to 4.30pm and no access to the Extension Cemetery or Coed Glyntaff after 4pm. For current visiting arrangements, the crematorium can be contacted on 01443 402810. Enquiries about purchasing an inscribed memorial leaf can be sent to CemeteryLeaves@rctcbc.gov.uk. The announcement does not state a leaf price.
