Seven-metre Earth installation opens at Swansea Minster

A seven-metre model of the Earth is coming to Swansea Minster for a programme running from 12 to 31 October. Luke Jerram’s Gaia uses NASA imagery and a surround-sound composition by Dan Jones. The Diocese of Swansea and Brecon lists a ticketed opening night at 6pm on Monday 12 October, with a performance at 7pm. The programme says ticketed and private events can restrict public access.

What else is planned
The programme includes choirs on 17 October, a community day on 22 October and a Dark Skies Gower planetarium event on 27 October. The community day is listed from 10am to 2pm, with a Volcano Theatre showcase at 2pm. The Minster will host concerts, worship, environmental activities and events for children around the installation. These are separate programme events, so visitors should check the diocese’s current schedule and booking details before travelling.
Check access before a visit
The announcement does not set out a single general admission price or daily visitor timetable. Do not assume every event is free or that the building will be open for unrestricted viewing throughout the exhibition. The linked programme is the place to check access and any changes.

Where this sits
A seven-metre installation provides the setting for separate events from 12 to 31 October, rather than a guarantee of all-day unrestricted access.
The 12 October opening is ticketed, while later programme events have their own access arrangements.
