More than 39,000 people have visited Sownd, Wales’ exhibition at the Venice Biennale, since it opened in May, the Arts Council of Wales says. Artists Manon Awst and Dylan Huw created the project with Oriel Davies and Oriel Myrddin. Wales returned to the Biennale this year after a seven-year absence.

Welsh peatlands in the closing programme

For the final weekend on 21 and 22 November, one room will show film of the project’s live events in Wales, alongside photographic prints. Those events took place between June and September at Cors Bodeilio on Anglesey, Cors Caron in Ceredigion and Cors Crymlyn in Swansea. The artists will be at the exhibition throughout Saturday 21 November, with a reading by Becca Voelcker at 11am. The Venice venue is the Istituto Santa Maria della Pietà in Castello.

What the figures cover

The council published the visitor total on Friday 23 October. It is a cumulative figure for the Venice exhibition, rather than a count of people attending the Welsh events. The council says the site-specific experiences in Wales were fully booked.
