Pentre Awel joins bookable accessible transport scheme

Canolfan Pentre Awel in Llanelli has been added to the locations served by the bookable “On the Go” transport scheme for disabled residents in Carmarthenshire. The partnership between Dolen Teifi and Age Cymru Dyfed offers wheelchair-accessible travel, with passengers able to be matched with a local volunteer driver. Carmarthenshire council announced the Pentre Awel addition on Thursday 22 October.
How to enquire about a journey
Bookings and enquiries go through Age Cymru Dyfed’s community transport team on 07399 861341 or communitytransport@agecymrudyfed.org.uk. The council quotes a charge of 58p per mile. Ask the team to confirm eligibility, vehicle and driver availability, the journey arrangements and the total charge before relying on a booking. The announcement does not give a guaranteed pick-up time or a fixed fare for any particular journey.
An addition to an existing scheme
The council says Dolen Teifi now has ten vehicles based around Carmarthenshire. Alongside Pentre Awel, locations listed include Newcastle Emlyn, St Clears, Carmarthen, Llandovery, Llanybydder, Laugharne, Tumble, Llandeilo and Burry Port. Pentre Awel brings health, wellbeing and leisure facilities together at Delta Lakes in Llanelli. The transport announcement gives another option for reaching the centre; it is not a new scheduled public-bus timetable. Dolen Teifi is also seeking volunteer drivers in Llanybydder, Laugharne, Tumble, Llandeilo and Burry Port. Volunteer enquiries can be made on 01559 362403 or at training@dolenteifi.org.uk.
