Cardiff-born Matthew Rhys has won two acting Emmys in 2026 and shares a third award as an executive producer of the winning comedy series Widow’s Bay.

Rhys won Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for his performance as Mayor Tom Loftis in Widow’s Bay. The Television Academy lists the programme with Apple TV.

He also won Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for playing Nile Jarvis in The Beast in Me, which the Academy lists with Netflix.

Widow’s Bay took Outstanding Comedy Series, with Rhys named among its executive producers on the winning entry. That is a producing award shared with the other credited producers, in addition to his two individual acting wins.

Rhys, who was born and raised in Cardiff, previously won the lead actor drama Emmy in 2018 for playing Philip Jennings in The Americans. His Academy record now lists four Emmys overall.
