Applications open for universal NPT childcare from January 2027

Parents and carers in Neath Port Talbot can now apply for funded childcare for two-year-olds. The council’s announcement, dated 24 September, says universal availability across the borough will begin in January 2027.

What the offer covers
Eligible children receive 12.5 funded hours a week over five days, for 39 school-term weeks. Provision begins in the term after a child turns two. Families should confirm their individual start date and setting availability through the application process.
How to apply
The council announcement links directly to the Universal Childcare Application NPT form. The expanded childcare offer should not be confused with all other Flying Start services, which have separate eligibility rules.

Correction, 24 September 2026: An earlier version said universal provision was available from 21 September. The council’s latest announcement gives January 2027. Applications are open now. We have corrected the start date and removed an incorrect description of the cabinet member’s portfolio.
