TfW cancelled Swansea to Llandrindod trains after a fault at Pantyffynnon, with buses to mid-morning

A fault on a train at Pantyffynnon stopped services both ways between Swansea and Llandrindod on Friday morning. TfW expected disruption until 10:00, with Gower buses covering the route.

Transport for Wales cancelled trains in both directions between Swansea and Llandrindod after a fault on a train at Pantyffynnon. TfW expected the incident to last until 08:00, and disruption from 05:45 until 10:00. Those times were TfW's estimate, not a promised clear.

What to do

TfW organised buses between Swansea and Llandrindod at no extra cost, provided by Gower. It listed a bus arriving at Llandovery and calling all stops to Llandrindod at about 07:00, another from Llandrindod towards Shrewsbury as required, and further road transport arriving at Llandrindod and travelling all stops to Swansea at about 07:29. On how long the buses would run, TfW's own wording was that the arrangements were "in place on services 09:00", which it did not explain and which sits oddly with the 10:00 it gave for the disruption itself. If one of TfW's trains is delayed or cancelled and you arrive at your destination more than 15 minutes later than scheduled, you can claim through Delay Repay, the industry compensation scheme.

Update, 12:50 on Friday 4 September: TfW's disruption window closed at 10:00 and the Pantyffynnon entry has come off its live service status page, checked at 12:50. TfW has published no all clear. This brief has been put into the past tense.
