Update: 20 October

Transport for Wales says services are returning to normal after the tree incident between Pontypool and New Inn and Abergavenny. At the afternoon check on 20 October, the operator had moved the incident into its recent cleared disruptions. This is an update to the earlier warning, rather than a second incident.

Earlier disruption

The earlier notice warned of delays of up to 60 minutes and possible cancellations between Newport and Hereford in both directions. TfW had forecast disruption until 6pm. The later returning-to-normal message supersedes that active warning; passengers should continue to check individual departures.

Alternative routes in the latest notice

TfW lists ticket acceptance on Great Western Railway between Cardiff Central and Bristol Parkway, CrossCountry between Cardiff Central or Bristol Parkway and Birmingham New Street, and West Midlands Railway between Hereford and Birmingham New Street. It says those arrangements remain in place until further notice. Passengers should check TfW’s current notice and the service they intend to use before travelling. The operator does not give a precise clearance time or confirm that every train is running normally.
