Transport for Wales says a fault with the signalling system at Pontypridd is cancelling services at the station, and TfW expects disruption until 14:00 today. Not every train is off. TfW puts it as services that "will be reduced through the area until the signalling system is working normally", and the cancellations run both ways. On TfW’s own boards at 04:38 the 06:03, 06:32 and 06:36 to Cardiff Central were cancelled and the 06:01 was on time; the 06:33 to Merthyr Tydfil was off, and so were arrivals from Treherbert and Merthyr Tydfil. Pontypridd sits on TfW’s Treherbert, Aberdare and Merthyr Tydfil to Cardiff Central line. TfW says technicians from Network Rail or Amey Infrastructure are en route.

Buses have been requested, not confirmed

TfW says it has requested rail replacement buses, and separately requested that the bus operator Stagecoach carry rail passengers. Neither is confirmed. TfW’s own words are that it has made a request and asks you to check back shortly for confirmation. Do not set off for a bus stop on the strength of it.

What to do

Check your own train with TfW before you leave. A board read at one moment is a snapshot, and the 14:00 is TfW’s estimate rather than a fix time. If you reach your destination 15 minutes or more late, the Delay Repay compensation scheme lets you claim. If your train is cancelled or delayed and you decide not to travel because of that, TfW says you can claim a fee-free refund on the unused ticket from wherever you bought it.
