Free men’s ceramics workshops start in Ystradgynlais on 3 October
Men over 18 can join free ceramics workshops at The Welfare in Ystradgynlais on Saturdays 3, 10 and 24 October. The venue’s booking page lists each session from 10am to noon, with no previous experience required.

What happens at the sessions?
Karen Woods will lead participants through pinch-pot and coiling techniques, with sculptures, oversized mugs and a personalised house-number tile among the items to make and take home. The venue advises wearing old clothes because the work is likely to be messy.
Part of the Man Made project
The workshops form part of Man Made, a collaboration between The Welfare and the BloomSpace Foundation funded by the Arts Council of Wales. The organisers consulted local men about creative activities before developing the programme.
A wider series of nine sessions is planned across ceramics, visual arts and photography. This is a project exploring creativity and wellbeing, rather than published evidence that the workshops improve mental health.
Booking and participation
The ceramics sessions are free, but booking is advised because spaces are limited. The Welfare’s booking page lists 3, 10 and 24 October; those are the dates used here, rather than the conflicting dates in the Arts Council’s project announcement.
Participants will be asked to complete a short wellbeing questionnaire before the workshop begins and after the final session, to help the organisers assess the project. The venue says the information will be treated confidentially.
